Trigger Point Injection
Trigger points are the knots in muscle that form because of stress and the inability to relax. If a trigger point is not managed appropriately, surrounding nerves may become irritated and pain will ensue. Trigger point injections are inserted underneath a patient's skin and into the trigger point. A local anesthetic and in some cases a corticosteroid is injected for immediate pain relief.
A patient may be eligible for multiple trigger point injections in one session. Depending on the patient's condition and his or her health, a Siouxland Pain Clinic physician may administer the injection to multiple sites. For chronic pain relief, trigger point injections may be helpful in managing fibromyalgia, tension headaches, and myofascial pain syndrome.
